What it shows
A portrait gallery of about 22,000 glaciers, each a small tile of its real relief. They are sorted by mean altitude, the lowest at the top left and the highest at the bottom right, and tinted from red to cyan. Your eye climbs the mountains as it goes down the image.
Data
The 30 m elevation model of each glacier.
How it is made
Each model is lit by a low sun from the north-west, with the relief exaggerated, then tinted according to its altitude rank.
